What to wear on Christmas Day

Surviving Christmas in a pandemic doesn’t have to be dull. However you’re spending your day, we have nailed what to wear on Christmas Day.

We’re approaching the most unconventional Christmas in a long time. As some areas of the UK enter a stricter lockdown level, we’ve had to change our plans last minute. While many of us are celebrating a smaller, possibly more lonely Christmas, keeping our spirits up is a necessity. Lets not give up on fun or glamour this festive season. Think elegant 50’s style with silk loungewear, jewellery and a bold lipstick are a must. Of course if you want to go all out, we recommend renting a dazzling outfit to feel like a million dollars.

Lingerie

Let’s start with the basics. Wearing lingerie you feel good in is an underrated mood lifter. We suggest comfortable, good quality lace, preferably in a flattering colour. Say goodbye to uncomfortable underwiring and say hello to a deep V neckline made to support and valorise your decolletage. This Stella McCartney set in dusty pink is perfection. And if you need another reason to love it, profits from this set will go to the Stella McCartney Cares Foundation. The foundation supports leading charities and centres worldwide that provide the most advanced early detection programmes and treatments for patients with breast cancer.

Silk Loungewear

This year’s work from home hero has to be the silk pyjama set. Before lockdown it may have been relegated to the back of your wardrobe. But thanks to brands like Daily Sleeper’s extravagant feather trimmed set, they are making a day wear come back. Wearing your silk pj’s will help you feel put together without too much fuss. Not to mention luxurious comfort. Silk is temperature regulating as well as being breathable and hypoallergenic.  If you favour cruelty free silk then check out Ethical Kind’s incredible range of peace silk loungewear, homeware and accessories.

Jewellery

A little golden touch goes a long way and will make you smile everytime you pass a mirror. A well chosen pair of earrings with a strong personality can be worn throughout the year. Of course comfort is key so an elegant pair of studs or light hoops are ideal.  We fell in love with BAR Jewelry, a sustainable brand that uses recycled materials, and is finished by local artisans in London, using the lost wax casting method. These Duet earrings are inspired by costume jewellery of the 1970s and ’80s, combining vintage form with minimal style.

Footwear

Lift your spirits with exciting footwear. Choose something flat or with a little kitten heel, and a little dose of drama. You could go all out and sport a pair of boudoir style mules, or you could just wear those fabulous evening shoes you bought earlier this year and were prevented from wearing due to lockdown. Ganni offer a pair of stunning golden sandals, a great transitional piece. You can wear them indoors for special occasions, and they’ll will still look great in summer too. The square toes and ruffle detail around the soles ensure they look original, with an unexpected touch.

A Bold Lipstick

The easiest way to elevate an outfit: a bold red lip. And what we learned this year is that you don’t have to leave the house to have a good excuse to wear a sassy lipstick. As we know Christmas is a day where all we want to do is spend time with our loved ones and enjoy great food. So do yourself a favour and opt for a matte or long-lasting lippie. As Ilia is the breakout star of the year, their Color Block High Impact Lipstick is pure joy for the makeup lovers.
