Best Facial Oils for your Skin Type

Finding the best facial oil for your skin type can be tricky. For those already using and reluctant first timers, read our guide to favourite oils and revitalise your skincare routine. your face deserves a little treat.

After their appearance on the beauty scene a few years ago, facial oils haven’t exactly had a smooth ride. They suffer from many a mis conception, the main one being that they will make your skin oily. However after extensive road testing, we are happy to report that this couldn’t be further from the truth. Choosing the right oil for your specific skin concern is important. This is because those with oily skin are generally regarded to be suffering from dry skin that is producing excess sebum. The natural choice would be to use a facial oil that moisturises, not dries in order to balance your skin.

Facial oils that contain Omega 3, or Alpha Linoleic Acid are the best choice in this case. Not only do they help balance sebum production but they are also lightweight and anti inflammatory, not to mention age preventative. You would also be forgiven for thinking oils are very expensive and it’s true for some luxuriously pricey options out there. However a lot of Indy brands have recently entered the market; The Ordinary and Botany Blend are pleasantly on the lower end of the scale. Here are our favourite facial oils for every skin type.

The Vendeur Tip –  How and when to apply you facial oil

In the morning apply 2-3 drops of a light, easily absorbed oil to your face. Apply it after cleansing and toning, but before a moisturiser. If you are applying a serum too do this before the oil.

At night apply 2-4 drops of any oil you wish. Again it goes after cleansing and toning (and serums) but before moisturiser. If you are using a treatment oil then you don’t have to follow with moisturiser, if you feel it’s done the trick.

We also love layering a few different oils on when we’re having that make up free day to give our skin a well deserved treat. Make sure you fit one in too!

Lighter than most, this regenerative oil is perfect for use in your morning routine. It sinks in quickly leaving your face bright and dewy looking. Because its formulated without essential oils it’s perfect for more sensitive skin types. We also love the bottle!
For those who wish to start small, or just prefer a purer product, The Ordinary’s no nonsense formulations are perfect. Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, this natural oil does all the amazing things we mentioned earlier; soften fine lines, moisturise, regulate sebum and calm dry, irritated skin.
Don’t be put off by the colour! Formulated with Azulene containing Blue Tansy, it soothes and balances dry, irritated skin and tones down redness. Squalane also helps to protect the skin from hyper pigmentation and premature ageing.

This oil is easily absorbed with rich Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids to nourish and balance your skin. If it sounds gloopy, it isn’t. Grape seed and Apricot Kernel oils provide moisture and are absorbed quickly into your skin.
