As part of our weekly Back to Basics series, we are shining a spotlight on great wardrobe staples that are made to last. Because timeless basics are the most sustainable pieces you can buy.
Can there be anything more classic or chic than a Little Black Dress? Once you have found your perfect partner, it can be relied upon to make you feel a million dollars any time you put it on. A good LBD never goes out of style. We run down the best LBDs for Winter.
It’s officially party season so we are thinking about our next stand out party outfit. It’s always great to have a classic Little Black Dress (LBD) in your wardrobe. A piece that makes you feel confident, that holds nostalgic memories of past celebrations. It’s also a faithful piece that you pull out again and again. For this reason it’s worth investing in a shape and a fabric that works for you. Steer clear of anything too trendy, it will date very quickly. A classic shape that flatters you will work year after year. Trust us, as long as you look and feel great, no one will care that you’ve worn it before.
Tips for Trend Led dressing:
The season pair your LBD with some showstopping shoulder grazing earrings. Find the blingiest pair of shoes you can and dance the night away. Or for an elegant day look, try a pair of knee high black boots.

Tips on caring for your LBD:
- Hand wash silk dresses in warm water with a gentle washing liquid. We recommend Ecover’s Delicate Laundry Detergent, £3.75 at Waitrose.
- Air dry silk, never tumble dry. But always ensure that the pieces don’t dry in direct sunlight.
- Badly stained dresses should be eco dry cleaned. In between time, treat it with a refreshing fabric spray.
- Have your LBD tailored to fit you. Including shortening, cinching and cropping in order to get the best fit.
- Add accessories to update you LBD. Its amazing the difference that a belt or a brooch can make.
