Why Your Mascara Should be Non Toxic

Many of us can’t live without mascara, it forms an essential part of many make up bags. However we are learning that your favourite mascara may not be so good for you. Read on to understand why your mascara should be non toxic.

When considering the products we use on our skin, it can often be a minefield. Effectiveness is of course an important reason to choose a product but is it good for your overall health? If you are looking to start replacing products in your make up bag with less toxic options, where should you start? Sjaniël Turrell is a Holistic Makeup Artist and Nutritional Therapist who only uses organic and natural products. Her clients include radiant wellness experts like Deliciously Ella and Jasmine Hemsley. Therefore we think she knows a thing or two about this subject. In her opinion, the best place to start is with mascara.

‘Of all the items in your make up bag that should be clean, it should be your mascara and lipstick. This is because they are the products that are applied nearest to the mucous membranes on your face (mouth and eyes). We unknowingly swallow and absorb products in these areas as they are most vulnerable. It makes sense that any products you put here should be as natural and non toxic as possible.’ – Sjaniël Turrell

With this in mind, we’ve put together a run down of our favourite non toxic mascaras. Whether you want length, volume, or natural looking lashes, there are some amazing options available that are just as good (if not better) than synthetic mascaras.
