Refillable Makeup

As our efforts continue to cut down on waste and plastic, it only seems sensible to look at refillable beauty products as an alternative option. And when they look this good, why wouldn’t you? These are our favourite refillable makeup products.

You’ve cut down on plastic waste in the kitchen, and in your bathroom, but what about your makeup bag? Whilst makeup packaging is definitely not ‘single use’ it still contributes to the millions of tons of plastic waste floating in our oceans. Several clean beauty brands have come up with great ways to allow you to enjoy your makeup, whilst dramatically reducing your waste. By creating long lasting packaging and offering refills to go in them, you can easily replace your favourite products. Better yet, the packaging is often so good looking, we don’t want to throw it away anyway! (We’re looking at you Kjaer Weis!)

Refillable Makeup

Kjaer Weis

Possibly the best of the lot, Kjaer Weis’ entire range is refillable (even the mascara). They worked with designer Marc Atlan to create stunning but practical metal pans for each product. Making them highly durable but also great to look at. The creamy formulas are also a winner, all of their ingredients are certified natural and organic. But boy to the products perform!

Zao Essence of Nature

All of Zao’s organic cosmetics are housed in innovative bamboo packaging. Bamboo is a natural fibre that doesn’t require pesticides or fertilisers to grow. It’s naturally regenerative but also super strong, in China it’s used as scaffolding for buildings. We love the huge array of fun colours and textures to choose from in the range. You’re bound to find something you love.

Jane Iredale

Looking for something special to perk up your make up table? Jane Iredale’s elegant powder compact would make a pretty addition to your collection. Better yet, the compact is made from recyclable, eco friendly materials. The pressed mineral face powder is free of oil, talc and parabens. However it is SPF 20 (hurrah!).

La Bouche Rouge

La Bouche Rouge is an achingly cool French brand putting the ‘classic’ back into red lipsticks. As a timeless makeup staple, they beleive that the packaging deserved better treatment. The elegant, magnetised metal cartridges are lovingly enveloped in leather making them beautiful and long wearing. They are a little pricey but treat it like an investment. It’s the best red lipstick you’ll own.

Alima Pure

Alima Pure’s range of foundations, concealers and powders all come in refillable pans. Which is great news because we love their use of natural ingredients specifically to give you great skin. You’ll also find a good range of shades to choose from which is sometimes not the case with natural beauty brands.
